Anhui is endowed with fertile land and plentiful species. Its annual cereal output usually exceeds 30 million tons, being one of China’s biggest provinces in cereal production. Anhui possesses plentiful mineral resources, and presently 158 types of minerals have been found. Reserves of 38 minerals, such as coal, iron, copper, limestone, etc., are among China’s top ten. Especially the coal, its reserves are no less than 48 billion tons.
Anhui has rich educational resources, possessing 2,078 research institutes with 2.1 million professional technicians; 101 colleges and universities with 1.55 million students at school; 5 National Big Science Projects, 2 National Laboratories, 9 National Key Engineering Laboratories, and 23 National Enterprise Technology Centers. In addition to Beijing, Hefei, the capital of Anhui, is the city with the densest National Big Science Projects. Anhui leads the world in some research fields with advanced achievements, such as Yokamak nuclear fusion device, quantum communication technology, etc.

Sales revenue of 6 industries, namely, equipment manufacturing, automobile, household appliance, steel, non-ferrous metal, petrochemical industry, have reached to more than RMB 100 billion.
Anhui has two bases of coal mining established respectively in Huainan and Huaibei, each having over 100 million tons of energy. The copper output of Tongling Nonferrous Group ranks No.1 in China. The steel output of Maanshan Iron & Steel ranks No. 6 in China. The cement output of Anhui Conch Cement Co. ranks No.3 globally and No.1 in Asia. The annual output of the four major household appliances in Anhui, namely, air conditioner, color television, refrigerator and washing machine, has reached to more than 80 million pieces, accounting for 20% of the total number in China. Hefei, the capital of Anhui, is the biggest production base of household appliance in China. The auto exports of Anhui accounts for 27% of the nation’s total, ranking No.1 in China. The sales volume of forklifts of Anhui HELI Forklift Group has been ranking No.1 for 21 consecutive years. The output of big-sized hydraulic presses of Hefei Duanya Group ranks No.1 in China. And the output of excavators of Hitachi Construction Machinery (China) Company ranks No.3 in China. Strategic emerging industries of Anhui are developing rapidly.
In 2011, the total output value of the 8 major strategic emerging industries, namely, electronic information, new energy automobiles, new energy, biology, new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, energy-saving and environmental protection industry and public security, amounted to RMB 412.21 billion, increasing by 62.1% in comparison with that of the previous year.
Hybrid electric vehicles form Chery and battery electric vehicles from Chery and JAC have been put into the market, and the amount of battery electric buses used for national demonstrative operation ranks No.1 in China; Hefei, the capital of Anhui, is the nation-level industrial base producing new-type panel display and has established a complete industrial fame of panel display, such as TFT-LCD, PDP, LED, etc.; the products and process technology of copper-based, iron-based, iron-based and silicon-based new materials, further processing of nonmetallic materials, water-soluble high polymer material, nanometer materials and their related application take a leading position in China; new energy industries, such as photovoltaic and biomass energy industries, are developing rapidly, and the first high-concentration photovoltaic energy-generating system and an automatic component production line in the world have been put into operation.
