Tourism in Anhui
Anhui is full of abundant tourism resourcesin China. There are not only beautiful natural scenes, but also such man-madecultural sights with Chinese characteristics as Buddhism, Taoism and Huiculture which are time-honored.
Yellow Mountain and the ancient villages in Xidi and Hongcun in Yi County are ranked among the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Anhui's possession of the relics on the list wins the third place inthe whole country. Moreover, Yellow Mountain is the world cultural heritage,the world natural relic, as well as the world geological park.
Anhui'spossession of 9 national level key scenic spots, including Yellow Mountain,Jiuhua Mountian, Tianzhu Mountain, Langya Mountain, Qiyun Mountain, Caishi,Chaohu and Xin'an River etc. is ranked the ninth in the whole country.
Yellow Mountain
Located in the southern part of Anhui Province, Mount Huangshan (The Yellow Mountains) extend across four counties - Shexian, Yixian, Taiping and Xiuning. They rose above the earth surface as a result of movement of the earth's crust over a hundred million years ago. Later they underwent the erosion of Quaternary glaciation and have gradually become what they are today. Magnificent sceneries of Mt. Huangshan make it a very famous tourist destination in the world.
Tianzhu Mountain
Chaohu is a scenic spot of national level. Spanning the center of Anhui Province, Chaohu is so named because the shape of this lake is like a bird's nest. One of the five largest freshwater lakes in China, the water area of Chaohu extends about 800 square kilometers. The main rivers flowing into Chaohu are Tuogao River, Nanfei River, Fengle River, Hangbu River and Zhao River. The aquatic resources in Chaohu are abundant, the silver fish, small shrimps and crabs are popular both at home and abroad.
